SS Great Britain Trust exhibited at our recent flagship event, Conference & Hospitality Show and have some great news to share about their new and unique event spaces.
The opportunity to attend an intimate dinner party in a recreation of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Shakespeare-inspired dining room could be yours following the launch of a new museum, Being Brunel, in Bristol.
At this year’s Conference & Hospitality Show (CHS) on 24 April, the SS Great Britain Trust showcased its new spaces now available as part of Being Brunel – which brings together the most significant collection of Brunel artefacts and insights for the first time.
The £7.2 million museum sits alongside the SS Great Britain and features six galleries setting out some 150 of Brunel’s personal artefacts – many never seen in public before.
The Shakespeare Room is just one of the new spaces in Being Brunel available to hire. It is a recreation of Brunel’s own dining room at his Duke Street residence in London where he had three commissioned paintings depicting Shakespeare’s plays on display. The room seats up to 12 people for fine dining and provides a luxurious and intimate historical setting.
Also available to hire is main exhibition space in the museum for up to 150 people, overlooked by Brunel himself! The overall design is set to evoke the atmosphere of the Great Exhibition of 1851 – which was a celebration of Victorian wonder and invention.
Surrounded by many of Brunel’s own personal artefacts, you and your guests can board a juddering 1830s broad-gauge railway carriage where you can compare your drawing skills to Brunel’s while ‘travelling’. You can also step ‘into Brunel’s mind’ for a multi-sensory cinema experience where you can observe extraordinary moments from his life as if you were seeing it through his eyes.
All this is a major addition to the stunning spaces already on offer within the Great Western Dockyard and on board the SS Great Britain herself. Catering for drinks receptions, dinners and parties, couples can also hire the ship for their entire wedding, giving them the perfect setting for their special day.
During an event, guests can explore the ship’s beautiful weather deck, surrounded by vistas of the harbourside and making the perfect drinks setting. The First Class Dining saloon is also available, featuring marbled pillars with gold leaf detailing, rococo mirrors, and storm lanterns. Up to 160 guests can be seated on large oak banqueting tables.
